April 2026 Retrospective
Preamble
Hi! We're one third done with 2026, which is crazy. Time to check in!Personal achievements
- Managed to get a 10/10 on my thermodynamics exam, something I never expected to happen
Reading
- Continued with my reread of The Hitchhiker's Guide with "Life, The Universe, and Everything". Got partway through and the put it on pause because...
- My friend, the one who got me into The Locked Tomb started reading A Series of Unfortunate Events. She told me that she would be reading the follow-up series All the Wrong Questions and I haven't actually read that yet, so obiously (/j) I had to reread the whole series before she does so I can maintain my smug "I know what's going to happen" act. I'm in the middle of the sixth book, "The Ersatz Elevator", right now, and I'm so excited for when she gets to the twelfth book in the series because it's my favorite
Gaming
- NEW! Played the demo for Sovereign Tower and absolutely fell in love. I'd seen it a few times on social media and you can't imagine how excited I was to find out there's a demo. Can't wait for its full release in August!
- NEW! Much like everyone else, I've gotten hooked on Vampire Crawlers. As a longtime Vampire Survivors fan I'm still getting used to the new game, but it does scratch the old familiar itch
- Incredibly excited for the release of Paralives next month. I've been followinf this game since August of 2019 and I can't believe I'm about to get my hands on it
- Played a bit of Subnautica, but got bored quickly and dropped it in favor of other stuff (like uni assignments)
- Still playing Genshin Impact, Sky: Children of the Light, and My Singing Monsters
Watching
- NEW! Took advantage of the National Thater's sales and went to see Little England. It was pretty good, the plot was honestly nothing to write home about but the arctors' performances really sold it
- NEW! About two weeks later my friend and I went to see The Merchant of Venice and it was so good. Content of the actual play aside, we all know how that is, the performance was so multilayered and so good - they actually translated different parts of the play into Italian, French, Spanish, Arabic, Scots. They did also change the ending of the play so that there was no crossdressing, which defanged the experience a bit, but otherwise it was a really good performance
- NEW! Got really into the podcast Maintenance Phase, as it's the perfect background noise for me to write my lab reports to, and I'm learning useful stuff at the same time. No clue what I'm gonna move onto when I catch up, but that's a problem for future me
Music
- NEW! Got really really into hemlocke springs. I'd seen her earlier music around social media and had given it a try in the past, but it didn't really stick with me. Her new album The Apple Tree Under the Sea made me absolutely fall in love with her music, I've been playing it on repeat nonstop. I think be the girl is my favorite song of hers right now
Art and making
- Nothing new here!
Going forward
May is about to be a really hard month for me because of uni, but at least Paralives is releasing on the 25th. So excited! That's all for now! See you next time! ☆
